POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Family Workshop Designer is a contractor role from February through June that serves as part of PowerMyLearning's Professional Learning Team and reports to the Senior Manager, Professional Learning (SMPL). The Family Workshop Designer works collaboratively with the SMPL and others to develop family workshops focused on helping families support their child's academic achievement and social-emotional growth. This position requires at least 10 hours each week.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop high-quality family workshop materials based on learnings from research and thought leaders in the areas of Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). Workshop materials include a PowerPoint deck with speaker notes, digital handouts, and facilitation guides.
  • Create engaging, interactive experiences for families in remote and in-person settings.
  • Curate and design interactive activities and resources to provide to participating families.
  • Participate in regular review sessions with SMPL and others.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Passion for PowerMyLearning's mission and values
  • Experience working with diverse communities of children and families
  • Experience developing workshops or presentations
  • Access to a computer with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Culturally Responsive Education and Social-Emotional Learning principles and practices
  • Knowledge of and experience with adult learners
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and ability to adhere to style guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Facility with MS Office and Google Suite
  • Comfort using interactive tools (e.g. Quizizz)

Preferred

  • Experience developing trainings or classes for families
  • Experience facilitating trainings or classes for families
  • Experience in a dedicated diversity, equity, and inclusion role

COMPENSATION AND LOGISTICS

  • Family Workshop Designers are compensated $2,500 for completion of each workshop for up to 4 workshops.
    • The $2,500 amount is a fixed compensation based on an estimated 50 hours of development time at a rate of $50 per hour.
    • The workshop development process includes initial brainstorming and outlining with the SMPL and others, submission of first draft, participation in the review process, and submission of subsequent drafts until all components are complete.
  • Initial training time is compensated at an hourly rate of $25 per hour for up to 10 hours.
